The School of Sanctuary initiative celebrates the good practice of schools that welcome
asylum seeking and refugee families into their community and foster a culture of welcome
and inclusion for all. Today there are more than 300 Schools of Sanctuary across the UK, 17
of which are located in Norfolk, with many more pursuing the award.

A Day of Welcome
This annual event is a day of solidarity and learning that aims to build a culture of welcome and understanding for refugees and asylum seekers. Organised in collaboration with Anglia Ruskin University, A Day of Welcome is designed to support schools and families in marking Refugee Week (in June) by providing resources and lesson plans for educators to use.
The Team
The Norfolk Schools of Sanctuary team is a small group of educators and volunteers who are committed to building a culture of welcome for refugees and asylum seekers in Norfolk schools and beyond.
Becoming a School of Sanctuary
Schools of Sanctuary is for everyone: diverse or homogeneous schools, parents, communities, local people and people seeking sanctuary. It’s a way to engage sanctuary seekers and families with their communities and educate children and teachers about the human right to sanctuary.
