Duygu Guzeltas – Project Coordinator

Duygu completed her masterโ€™s degree at the School of Education, University of East Anglia, in 2018. She transitioned from teaching to the charity sector to empower underrepresented communities. She spent two years working on a co-production project focused on mental health services. Currently, she is involved in various projects supporting refugees and asylum seekers, aiming to amplify lived experiences, influence systemic change, and reduce inequalities within our communities. She is the coordinator of Norwich Sanctuary Ambassador Project.


Marie Lyse Numuhoza – Project Lead

Marie-Lyse has been involved with Norwich City of Sanctuary since it was founded in 2016. Over the years, she has been a passionate advocate of refugee rights and leads our Faith Stream. In 2024, she became the Project Lead for Norwich City of Sanctuary’s Ambassador Project, helping recruit and train the team of Sanctuary Ambassadors.


Emily Clark – Advisory Board Member and Co-founder of the Project

Dr Emily Clark is a GP with experience working clinically with people seeking sanctuary. She co-leads Norwich City of Sanctuary’s Health Stream. She is an NIHR in-practice research fellow at UEA working with researchers in the Schools of Health Sciences and Medicine to improve access to healthcare for people seeking sanctuary. 


Hannah Fox – Advisory Board Member and Co-founder of the Project

Hannah is a GP working in Norwich.  She began working with people from Sanctuary Seeking backgrounds in 2012 during her training in London, when she volunteered for Doctors of the World.  Since moving to Norwich she has worked in a mental health clinic called โ€˜SHIFAโ€™, which was a specialist clinic for people who are seeking asylum or have refugee status.  Over the past two years Hannah has become more involved with the City of Sanctuary community in Norwich, and is co-lead for the Health Stream.


Sophie North – Advisory Board Member and Co-founder of the Project

Sophie left clinical medicine in 2011 to set up a retreat centre for asylum seekers and refugees. She joined the University of East Anglia shortly after this, co-delivering sessions for healthcare students, with people who have lived experience of forced displacement. Sophie is currently a lecturer at  UEA and the academic lead for the UEA University of Sanctuary initiative.
