Frank’s Bar is the first business in Norwich to be awarded Sanctuary status.
To win the award, the owners had to demonstrate how they would encourage a culture of hospitality to new-comers to the city. The cafe chose to offer work experience to a Sudanese refugee. Babkir Mohammed joined them on placement and went on to gain a job at Frank’s Bar as a kitchen porter.
The cafe, run by owners Ella Williams and James Wingfield, also offer their cafe to host events linked to the Sanctuary movement, such as local art exhibitions. In time they are committed to doing more to embed the idea of ‘welcome’ in their workplaces. For example, they want to host cooking exchange workshops, where people from across the world can come together to share their recipes.
Frank’s Bar is located in the centre of Norwich, on Bedford Street.
