Theatres of Sanctuary gather in Norwich

Norwich Theatre became a Theatre of Sanctuary 6 years ago, becoming a powerful voice of welcome in the city. This year, as part of the month-long Platforma festival in the East of England, they invited colleagues from fifteen Theatres of Sanctuary from up and down the UK to come together for a day of workshops.

The focus was on sharing, reflecting, and imagining what it could mean to be a Theatre of Sanctuary in the future. The day included a playful warm-up led by Turkish actor Suat Onur Calik, discussions on progressive routes and coproduction, and a conversation about responses to hostility and division. The event closed with a new performance from Norwich Theatre’s Being Migrant project, Three Migrant Women.
