Norwich City Council joins call for Home Office to do more to support refugees

In an open letter to the government, over 20 local authorities, including Norwich City Council, call for the Home Office to address six key issues concerning refugees. The councils – from all parties – argue that they urgently need more support to help with the influx of Ukrainians, Afghans and other refugees and asylum-seekers who have arrived in the UK this year.

Leader of Norwich City Council, Alan Waters, has added his signature to the letter. Norwich City council is working with us at Norwich City of Sanctuary to become a Council of Sanctuary.

Siรขn Summers-Rees, Chief Officer at City of Sanctuary UK, said: โ€œThis is an important letter about urgently needed changes which would ensure that people fleeing violence and persecution can find sanctuary in our communities. Local Government, together with communities and the third sector, are best placed to welcome people of sanctuary seeking background so it is great to see so many council leaders from across the country calling for a kinder and fairer refugee protection framework.โ€
